![]() ![]() You have not cut enough to know the difference. ![]() So in the end I think its another case of messing with something that in the big picture makes no difference. And even it was when you think about spending a day in the woods like I do so very little of the time is actually cutting and more is moving around and moving wood. If one was to test the two against each other I'd be surprised if one was any appreciably faster. I doubt that square or round filing makes any significant difference. I really think that 80% of it is a relatively sharp blade that is sharpened somewhat correctly. It does a good job and I'm pretty fussy about making the teeth even. When all my chains are dull I sharpen them all at the same time. So my chains last a long time, at least to me it seems that way. I don't drag my logs on the ground, I keep them clean. I'm careful not to ever hit rocks or dirt. I use a chain till its dull or has issues cutting then swap it out for another. I cut several cords/yr for firewood, a couple of trees for lumber and some more for just clearing, timber stand improvement stuff. So you burn a few files.I don't know, I'm not claim any kind of expert status. You can buy a lot of files for the price of a Silvey Pro Sharp. There's an hour and a half of my life I'll never get back!ĥ. Another one of those was a 32" full comp loop. The last square file got 4 or more done, and one was converting round filed to square filed (that's a lot of filing). I usually get a 3-4 chains out of a round file. I think I get as many or more chains out of a square file than I do a round file. Since I am not proficient yet, I find myself filing more because I'm chasing a high or low corner, or bad angles. A round file can be rotated, so you have more filing surface available to wear down.ģ. When square filing, you use the same part of the file every time, all the time. Judging by your sig, that's what you use.Ģ. I thought I was wearing my square files out quick too, but got thinking about a few things then I quit worrying about it:ġ. I've heard Vallorbe are OK too, but I've never seen them available. ![]()
